Jekyll Island - Doing It Just Like the Rich & Famous Used To

On the way back from our short cruise, we stayed 2 nights at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel. A hot spot for vacationing among the rich and famous for years. The Pulitzers, Goodyears, and others used to have cottages there - and many are still standing and renovated. The hotel was so much history and it was amazing to walk around and experience it.

There is also a ton to do on site, without leaving the property.

1) Sea turtle hospital. It's a little overpriced, but you figure the money is going to a good cause

2) Bike riding, everywhere. I made my husband and daughter ride for hours both days that we were there. We explored the whole property and nearly the whole island on bikes. The bikes could be rented on the same property as the hotel.

3) Alligators - they are everywhere. There's even several signs reminding you not to feed your hands to them.

4) Driftwood beach. It's super cool, and super sad at the same time. The beach is eroding. The sand is moving from one end of the island to the other. There actually used to be structures on this beach, but have all been blown/washed away over the years. (More pictures in separate blog entry)

5) Sunsets - don't forget to take the time to watch them!
